An adult day program allows the loved one to socialize and interact with others and have their physical, mental and emotional needs meet.
This gives the caregiver an opportunity to “clock out.” You literally go and do what you need to do. The adult day service is on-the-clock and taking care of your loved one for you.
This is easier said than done for many caregivers, but ultimately the goal is to truly leave, decompress and just be you. Your life needs to continue during the process of being a caregiver. For example, if you’re using a three-day-a-week schedule at an adult day program, use two of the days to get tasks done such as going to the grocery store, cleaning the house and working. Use that third day to do something uplifting that feeds your soul and will help keep you going.
